What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Ground fighting, leverage and submissions — technique beats strength.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art decided on the ground. Instead of striking, you control your partner through position, leverage and pressure until a submission takes hold. Because technique and timing matter more than raw strength, BJJ works against physically larger opponents.
That is exactly why it is both so effective for self-defence and so safe to train: there are no strikes, and any exchange can be stopped instantly by tapping.
You build endurance, mobility and body awareness without having to be fit beforehand. Fitness is a result of the training, not a prerequisite for it.

Common questions about getting started
Do I need any experience to start BJJ?
No. Most of our members had no martial arts experience whatsoever before their first class. The Beginners class exists precisely for that.
Do I need to be fit first?
No. You train at your own pace and rest whenever you need to. Conditioning and mobility develop through the training itself.
What should I bring to my first class?
Sportswear without zips or pockets (a t-shirt and leggings or shorts work well), something to drink, and clean feet. You do not need a kimono for the trial class — but if you already own one, feel free to bring it.
Are classes taught in English?
Classes are taught in German, but our coaches speak English and are happy to explain anything again in English. Several of our members are English-speaking and settled in quickly.
Is the trial class really free?
Yes. Your first class is free and carries no obligation to sign up for anything.
How often should I train per week?
We recommend two sessions a week for steady progress. Our memberships include unlimited training, so you can come as often as suits you.
Is there a minimum age for the adult classes?
The adult classes are for ages 16 and up as a rule. We run separate classes for children and teenagers aged 5 to 15. Those aged 14 or 15 may also attend the adult technique classes after speaking with the coach, with training partners assigned by the coach.
Do I have to compete?
No. Competing is an option, never a condition. The majority of our members train purely for themselves.
